CAMDEN - A Camden man trying to prevent a state trooper from towing a friend's car inadvertently led the trooper to a marijuana-growing operation at the friend's house, police said.
Trooper Christopher Sharpe was investigating a complaint of an unregistered, abandoned vehicle Tuesday near Haddon Avenue and Pine Street.
Quindel Bundy, 25, approached and said he knew who owned the car, Detective Steve Jones of the state police said yesterday. Sharpe wanted proof of ownership, so Bundy took him to a house on the 700 block of Haddon Avenue where, he said, one of the owners lived, Jones said.
As Sharpe questioned Gloria I. Medina, 23, at the front door, he smelled raw and burnt marijuana, Jones said.
He said that after Medina consented to a search, Sharpe discovered a 96-square-foot garden of hydroponically grown cannabis in the basement and about a dozen marijuana stalks drying in a closet.
Bundy and Medina were charged with cultivation of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Both were being held last night.
