#43 You know who I like? Josh Rubin.
On top of the VMA thing, this is finally starting to leak out, so I'm gonna talk about it. It's been a fun MK12 news week.
So. The Guided By Voices video was, in fact, part of a large multimedia experiment by Coca-Cola called the M5 project. 5 design shops like us around the world were chosen (Lobo, Designer's Republic, Rex & Tennant McKay, and Caviar) to design bottles (made out of some freaky aluminum that has the designs applied directly TO the sheet of metal... it's really odd) and make animation pieces. Flattering, right? No pressure there. No sir.
We were able to get GBV and their managment into the idea, so we did BACK TO THE LAKE. Lobo did a Flaming Lips thing, I think. Coke was a sponsor, really: they made it all happen and left everyone alone to do the work. No product placement, no credit, etc. They didn't want a Coke commercial. They wanted to commission a piece of work from us. That was it, that was all: it was the Job Too Good To Be True.
When Ben and I talked in NYC we showed it as a work in progress; Coke's only request was that we not reveal they were behind it. They're looking, I think, into becoming patrons of work like this, the way they once did for Warhol & co. And so that's M5 and that's why we did it
Anyway. There's more stuff in the works from our corner of the M5 project (including what might could be the coolest t-shirt ever made). More on that as we get answers and stuff.
It was for Coke. HA! COKE! COKE COKE COKE! IT WAS FOR COKE.
Whew. There. Now it is on the cybarw3b.
COKE!
EDIT: Click here to watch it.
