#28 Response off of the CASANOVA ad on the back of FELL and the inside back of GØDLAND has been pretty great and tremendously flattering. I began work in earnest on scripting the first issue of CASANOVA last night. My work on the actual heavy lifting had sorta screeched to a halt after I finished the series bible, which was 77 pages all in all (20 some of writing, the rest was visual stuff for Gabriel).
I've been looking for the right tools and vocabulary, I guess, all this time. After talking some to Eric and Gabriel yesterday, I felt like it all came together and, as often happens, I was trying to take a nap when the opening scene gave itself to me, and off I went like a light. Cass had his opening scene and the book was underway.
To answer a couple questions I've been getting in the email here:
- Yes, it's in the same format and price-point as FELL, $1.99 an issue, with 16 pages of comics in each.
- Yes, our goal is to make each issue a self-contained episode, with over-arcing stories tying the book together into seasons. I've been trying to think of it along the lines of a BBC-style show-- not like a soap, but not like CSI in its hermetically sealed plot style, either.
- Yes, Gabriel really is that fucking amazing.
- Yes, Spring 2006. It's a long-range tease, I know, but we want to take the time to get a running start and deliver the best book we can-- for retailers and readers alike, you know?
Anyway. Off we go. Drop a line, maybe we can start some kind of CASANOVA mailing list or some-such.
(On the left is how I write first drafts-- from here I do a long-hand script, and then by the time it gets typed, it turns into a fairly polished second draft. I'll do one more clean-up pass and call it done.)
